Performance Profile close model

I'm trying to use the Performance Profile, but when I run my model with this tool, it unexpectedly closes. After some testing, I discovered that the Performance Profile works fine if I run my model for less than 01:02:33 (dd:hh:mm). However, if the runtime exceeds 01:02:33, the model closes. Does anyone know why this happens or if there are any known issues with this tool?

Hello @Yumi Nishijima,

Can you share the model so we can replicate the issue?

Can you check your task manager to see if you are having a memory issue?

Does this issue occur if you use a newer version of FlexSim?

Hi @Jeanette F,

Hi Jeanette,

Thank you for your patience. Here’s an update on the issue:

  1. Model Size:

    • I’m unable to send the model due to its large size. Additionally, I haven’t been able to replicate the error in a new model, which makes it difficult to pinpoint the exact cause.

  2. Crash in v2024.2:

    • I tested the model in the new version (v2024.2), but it continues to close unexpectedly.

  3. Memory Usage:

    • During testing, I monitored the memory usage in Task Manager and noticed it consistently rises to under 85%.

Otherwise i saw this post Performance Profiler Unavailable - FlexSim Community and i made some test again deleting the profiledata node, but the model still closing.I noticed that the ProfileData node becomes larger when using the Performance Profiler.
Do you know if this node has an unlimited memory ? Could you provide more details on how it works and if there are any recommended best practices to manage its size?

Hello @Yumi Nishijima,

Can you use a work related cloud service to upload the model and share the link? You can also email us the model at FlexSim.support@autodesk.com

Hi @Yumi Nishijima, I don't believe the ProfileData node is doing anything more than storing data for the Performance Profiler. It will add to the FlexSim instance's memory usage just like anything else in the tree. The Performance Profiler probably adds to the memory usage while it is recording as well.

The ProfileData node will also be saved to the model file when the model is saved unless the node is cleared or deleted. And I don't believe either of those things happen automatically. However, it is replaced every time the Profiler is run.

That being said, the ProfileData node does grow as more things get added to the model (more objects, activities, etc. - even things like user commands). Most things that take time to execute during a model run will be stored in that node. However, the node should be pretty lightweight compared to other things in the model like Objects, so I would be surprised if it's the reason the model is crashing. It could be some sort of corruption in that node or the Performance Profiler, but we won't be able to help with that unless we can look at the model.

One thing to note is the Profiler doesn't need to record the whole model run. You can just record a good representative sample of the what's happening in the model to understand what's slow and could potentially be optimized. You also don't need to start recording at the beginning of the model run. You can run it up until you want to start recording, stop the model, start the Profiler recording, then restart the model until you want to stop recording.

@Logan Gold, thanks for your help! I did more tests, starting the Performance Profiler after the simulation start time, but the model still closes unexpectedly. I understand that I don’t need to use the perf. profile the entire simulation. The issue is that the performance profile prevent me from running more than 2 days of simulation time, but thats fine, thanks again for your support
